用法：通常是可數名詞。說「一條繩子」時用 a string；泛指材質或繩線時也可用不可數形式。

使人空等；以不確定的承諾吊著人
以含糊的承諾或說法讓某人繼續等待、抱有希望，卻不給明確答覆或真正行動。
用法：string someone along 是不可分離概念上的片語，但受詞一定放在 string 與 along 之間，例如 string her along。
If you are not going to give him a job, do not string him along.
