一堆；一疊；一摞
許多物品堆放在一起所形成的一堆東西，可以整齊，也可以凌亂。
用法：通常是可數名詞。表示內容物時，常用 a pile of 加上名詞。
There was a pile of papers on the teacher's desk.

Please put the clean clothes in a pile on the bed.

大量；一大堆
大量的某事物，尤其指工作、金錢、問題或待處理的事情。
用法：a pile of homework 中的 homework 不可數，不可改成 homeworks。

The dirty dishes piled up after the family dinner.

4.
湧入；擠進；成群移動
一群人快速而擁擠地進入、離開或聚集在某個地方。
用法：表示進入交通工具時，通常用 pile into 或 pile onto，不說 pile to。
The students piled into the classroom when the bell rang.
鐘聲一響，學生便一窩蜂擠進教室。
After the show, everyone piled into the last train.
演出結束後，大家都擠進最後一班火車。

樁；樁柱
打入地底以支撐建築物、橋梁或碼頭等結構的長柱。
用法：常見搭配為 concrete piles 與 foundation piles。
The bridge stands on piles put deep into the ground under the water.
這座橋建在深入水下地面的樁上。

痔瘡
肛門周圍或直腸下段腫脹的血管所造成的不適；此義通常用複數 piles。
用法：此義幾乎一律使用複數形式 piles。
He saw a doctor because he had piles.
