遙遠的；遠方的
距離某人、某地或某物很遠的。
用法：常與 from 連用，表示「離……很遠」：be distant from。distant 通常帶有「相當遠」的語氣；若只是一般的「遠」，常用 far。
A distant bell rang as students walked into the school gate.
學生走進校門時，遠處傳來鐘聲。
From the train window, we could see distant mountains beyond the city.
從火車窗外，我們可以看見城市另一頭的遠山。

疏遠的；冷淡的；不親近的
在態度或情感上顯得冷淡，與人保持距離，或彼此關係不親近。
用法：可用 be distant with someone 或 be distant toward someone，但更自然的說法常是 seem distant、grow distant，或 have a distant relationship with someone。
The girl seemed distant at dinner, so her father asked if something was bothering her.

用法：distant future 指「很久以後的未來」，不只是「未來」；distant past 指「非常久遠的過去」。

For a middle school student, choosing a university may feel like a problem in the distant future.

4.
遠親的；旁系的
與某人有親屬關係，但親等較遠或家庭往來不密切的。
用法：distant relative 前通常用 a，而不會說 my distant family 來表示「遠親」。
At the Lunar New Year dinner, I met a distant cousin who lives in Canada.
農曆新年圍爐時，我認識了一位住在加拿大的遠房表親。
She learned that the family in the old photo were distant relatives of her grandmother.
